“Finding Magic” – A show of Fantastical Cartoon Sculpture and Paintings by “Pop Surrealist” Ogy Blue
Ogy Blue, winner of Best of Show at the Museum of Arizona Artists First Annual Juried show, Art and the City, November 2023
Opening Friday, February 2 – Closing March 1, 2024
Opening Reception – 6 to 9pm
Ogy Blue, a quirky, obsessively creative, self-taught artist makes art happen out of every element in his world from colorful sculptures and paintings to wearable art.
His whimsical work embodies a scary-cute cross between Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
One finds a feeling of optimism there, but edged with a wary awareness of the dark side.
Ogy Blue’s work traces and celebrates a life transformation from a spiritually dark period into the creative blossoming shown in this body of work.
The work is characterized by fluid, dynamic abstractions, pairing of opposites, cosmic fantasy and cartoon-comic villainy.
