MOAZA Intergenerational Arts Program HeartSparks!

Opening Intergenerational Hearts and Minds through Art, Play and Connection

HeartSparks! is the brainchild of Sharon Spector, MS, Certified Life Coach, and Intergenerational Guide. Sharon designed the event and organized the presentation. Jo-Ann Lowney, artist and MOAZA Board Member helped to create and bring HeartSparks! into fruition.

Our first host for this program was Pinnacle Peak Presbyterian Church, Scottsdale on Sunday, February 4th, 2024.

HeartSparks! Joel Coplin, S.Pipkin with youths

The concept for this program is to increase the understanding and respect between youth and elders by inviting members of diverse generations and experience to enter a conversation using the common language of art as the catalyst and medium of communication.

We brought together teens and elder artists to learn and contribute to each other’s empathy and understanding through light-hearted play, conversation and art. All ages were recognized for having something valuable to contribute-a past, present, future and imagination. By connecting we spark our inherent creativity, spirit, caring and mutual understanding.

Martin Luther King famously said, “People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

Participants in this program included Arizona artist members of MOAZA, Joel Coplin, Jo-Ann Lowney, Jill Ginsburg, Tom Muller, Dyane Welt, and Sandra Pipkin.
